Maxwell leads Tech
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. -- Tennessee Tech finds itself in strong position to move up in Tuesday's final round at the North Alabama Spring Classic at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Fighting Joe course.
The Golden Eagles sit in 10th place out of 17 teams but are just four strokes out of sixth after 36 holes of golf on Monday.
Lee Maxwell led Tech over the first two rounds, firing a second-round 73 to follow a first-round 78 for a combined score of 151. Mason Griffin (72-80=152) and Travis Ramsey (77-75=152) followed one stroke behind while Greg Kitts (79-76=155) rounded out the Golden Eagle contingent.
Tyler Cassetty was slated to compete with the team but withdrew from the tournament.
As a team, Tech shot 306 in the first round and 304 in the second for a combined score of 610.
North Alabama, the host squad, leads the event with a team score of 573 and is 14 strokes ahead of its closest competitor. Wilmington (587), Midwestern State (595), Huntingdon (596) and Cameron (598) rounded out the top five.
The rest of the field consisted of Northern Kentucky (606), Missouri-St. Louis (606), Central Alabama CC (607), Tampa (607), Tennessee Tech (610), Central Missouri (612), Delta State (612), Concord (616), Wallace State CC (629), William Carey (642), New Orleans (644) and Martin Methodist (650).
The tournament concludes Tuesday with a final 18 holes.
