PINEVILLE, Ky. -- Tyler Cassetty had a great start and a solid
finish. It was the middle round that cost him. The junior carded
scores of 70 in the first round Monday and 74 to wrap up play
Tuesday, sandwiched around a second round 79 as he placed 12th
overall in the indivual standings at Morehead State's 54-hole
Wasioto Winds Fall Kick-Off Tournament.
The Golden Eagles placed ninth in the team standings of the 10-team
tournament with a 909 score in a close finish between the final
four teams.
Murray State blistered the course for a 40-shot victory with an 845
team total. Belmont (885) was second, followed closely by Southern
Illinois (886). John A. Logan College (891) slipped to fourth after
opening the final day in second place, while Bellarmine (892)
rounded out the Top five.
The second five was led by UT Martin (900), while four strokes
separated the final four teams. Walters State (907) took seventh,
Lipscomb (908) was eighth, Tech (909) was ninth and host Morehead
State (910) was 10th.
Cassetty narrowly missed a Top 10 finish, posting a total of 223 to
pace coach Craig King's squad. Redshirt freshman Greg Kitts was the
next finisher for Tech, placing 35th with a score of 228. Junior
Lee Maxwell was just one shot back at 229 to finish 38th, while
junior Travis Ramsey and freshman Mason Griffin tied for 50th palce
at 234.
A sixth Tech player, freshman Sam Schrock, was in 44th place with a
232 while competing individually.
The next tourney for the Golden Eagles is the Murray State
Invitational, Oct. 4-5.
