SPRING HILL, Tenn. -- Lee Maxwell and Travis Ramsey had
Tennessee Tech's best scores Monday on the opening day of the TSU
Intercollegiate, but they're not helping the Golden Eagles since
both players are competing as individuals.
Tech heads into Tuesday's final round in 11th place among the 15
teams in the tournament, being played at Spring Creek Golf Club.
The Golden Eagles are six shots out of the Top 10.
Murray State posted rounds of 280 and 288 Monday to grab the lead
with a 568, five shots ahead of John A. Logan College at 573.
Belmont (574) is third, followed by Dayton and SIU Edwardsville
(578) tied for fourth.
The second five includes Eastern Illinois (579), Evansville (58),
Texas Pan American and Tennessee State (583), and Morehead State
(585).
Tech two rounds Monday saw the Golden Eagles card scores of 294
and 297 for a 591.
Maxwell (pictured above) opened with an even-par 70 and followed
with a 75, leaving him tied for 19th place at 145. Ramsey shot 76
and 70 for a 146, putting him in a tie for 21st place.
Among the five in Tech's lineup, Jake Heatherly and Preston
Marshall lead the way. They are tied for 34th place at 148.
Heatherly shot rounds of 71 and 77, while Marshall shot 73 and 75.
Blake Garrison is next, shooting 74-75--149 to place him in a tie
for 48th place.
Wes Korth shot a second round 70 to match Maxwell and Ramsey for
the team's lowest round of the day. He opened with an 83 and is
tied for 65th place at 153. Senior Josh Simer, who owns Tech's low
average this year, is fifth on the team in this event, tied for
77th place at 76-81--157.
The tournament's individual leader is Filip Timmerman of John A.
Logan who fashioned scores of 69 and 66 for a five-under 135.
