JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – If the Tennessee Tech men’s
golf team had shot as well Monday as they fared Tuesday, the Golden
Eagles might have been near the top of the standings.
The Golden Eagles fired a 297 Tuesday, the sixth-best round of the
day, but it only allowed Tech to move up one spot in the final
standings to 13th place at the Grub Mart/Young Oil Invitational,
hosted by Jacksonville State.
Tech was in 14th place Monday after a first round 319, then knocked
22 shots off their total on the second day.
Austin Peay won the team title, leap-frogging past three teams that
shared the first round lead to claim the championship. The Govs
carded a 282 Tuesday for a 572 total to win by 10 shots over host
Jacksonville State (582). Presbyterian (586) finished third,
followed by Columbus State (589) and the JSU-B team (590).
Tech’s top score came from sophomore Tyler Cassetty, who
finished in a tie for 20th place with a 74-74—148. His score
didn’t go toward Tech’s team total, since he was
competing as an individual.
The team’s top finisher was Jared Dunn, who shot
77-75—152 to finish in a tie for 32nd place. Greyson Painter
and Wes Korth tied for 44th place, each shooting a 154. Jake
Heatherly and Calvin Clark each posted scores of 160 to tie for
73rd place.
JSU’s Mark Whisenant won medalist honors with a
69-70—139 on his home course.
