JACKSON, Miss. -- The Tennessee Tech men's golf team didn't have
quite the round Monday that the Golden Eagles posted on Sunday, but
still managed to finish third among nine teams competing at the
Pizza Hut/AT&T Invitational, hosted at Dancing Rabbit Golf
Course by Jackson State University.
After shooting a team total of 308 on Sunday, Tech came into the
final round in second place, just four strokes off the pace set by
leader North Alabama. The Golden Eagles scored a 319 total on
Monday and slipped to third place overall.
North Alabama followed its opening round 304 with a strong second
day showing of 291 to run away from the field with a 595 total. UT
Martin crept ahead of Tech for second place with a 618, while the
Golden Eagles were third at 627.
Host Jackson State shot a closing round of 397 and nearly caught
Tech, winding up just two shots back at 329 for fourth place. JSU
was followed by Lipscomb (630), Centenary (642), Tennessee State
(645), Southern (715) and Alcorn State (854).
Senior Jared Dunn had Tech's best round Monday with a 76 and
finished in a tie for sixth place with a 153 total. Jake Heatherly,
who carded a team-low 75 on Sunday, shot a 78 Monday and was also
in the four-way tie for sixth.
Just behind for Tech, Greyson Painter shot a 77 to finish at 155
and claim 12th place. Wes Korth posted an 88 on Monday and finished
31st at 166, while Calvin Clark was 37th at 175 following a round
of 91 Monday.
David Gies of North Alabama was medalist at 146.
The Tech men's team will play next at the Grover Page Classic,
hosted by UT Martin, on March 2-3. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagle
women's golf team will open their season March 2-3 at the Murray
State Invitational.
