Clay claims first career OVC Freshman of the Week honors

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Off the heels of the best two performances of his young career, Tennessee Tech men's basketball freshman Jr. Clay provided the Golden Eagles their second straight Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honor Monday afternoon.

A week after his teammate, redshirt freshman Hunter Vick, claimed a share of the league's weekly accolade, Clay snagged his first career award after averaging 17.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in two games last week.

The rookie dropped a season-high 20 points on 50 percent shooting from the field against Winthrop, narrowly missing his first career double-double with nine rebounds. He the team in scoring, rebounds and assists in the contest.

A native of Chattanooga, Clay returned to take on his hometown team and led the Golden Eagles with 15 points, seven boards and three steals. He knocked down both of his attempts from downtown.

Tech returns to action Thursday, Dec. 6, playing host to Warren Wilson College in the Eblen Center at 6:00 p.m. CT.
