COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - After a 13-point win at UT Martin Thursday
night, The Tennessee Tech men's basketball team will wrap up its
two-game Ohio Valley Conference road swing against Murray State on
Saturday night.
Tech will be looking for its third road win in OVC play this
season, as it tries to hand Murray State its first loss of the
conference season. The Golden Eagles are 8-9 on the year and 2-4 in
the OVC, while Murray State is 15-3 and 7-0 in the OVC. The Racers
are riding a six-game winning streak into the game, and are 8-0 at
home this season.
The Golden Eagles and racers are No. 1 and 2 in the OVC in scoring
offense. Tech is averaging 76.6 points per game while the Racers
are scoring 78.4 per contest. However, Murray State holds the
advantage in scoring defense. MSU is tops in the league, giving up
just 61.1 points per game while Tech ranks ninth, giving up 78.7
points per game.
Tech is led by senior Frank Davis who is nearing the 1,000 point
mark for his career. Davis has scored 955 points as a Golden Eagle,
and is averaging a team-best 15.6 this season. Davis is shooting
50.5 percent (53-of-105) from behind the 3-point arc this season,
which is good for third best in the nation.
Sophomore Kevin Murphy is averaging 14.6 points for Tech, and the
Golden Eagles are coming off a game in which all five starters
scored in double figures. Junior Alfred Jones matched his career
high with nine rebounds on Thursday night, and freshman Terrell
Barnes scored a career-high 11 points.
No Racer is scoring more than 11.2 points per game, but six players
are averaging over 9.0 points per game...Murray State holds a
commanding 117-46 advantage in the all-time series between the two
schools. The two teams split the season series last year, with both
teams winning at home.
The Golden Eagles are shooting 47.7 percent on the season, while
opponents are hitting 46.5 percent of their shots. On the other
hand, Murray State has hit 50.5 percent of its shots on the year,
and held opponents to just 38.8 percent.

After facing Murray State, the Golden Eagles will be at home for
four straight OVC games. That stint will begin on Jan. 21 against
rival Austin Peay. Tech will then host Tennessee State on Jan. 23,
Eastern Illinois on Jan. 28 and Southeast Missouri on Jan. 30.
