BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Jud Dillard had a couple of firsts this week.
The freshman on the Tennessee Tech men's basketball team made his
first collegiate start on Feb. 6 against Morehead State. In that
game, he recorded his first career double-double. But Dillard is no
stranger to the Ohio Valley Conference's Freshman of the Week
title, which he received Monday for the third time this season.
Dillard went off for a career-high 25 points against the Eagles,
and collected a career-high 12 rebounds. He connected on 9-of-12
shots in the game, and also finished with two assists and two
steals. The scoring outburst was the second 20-plus point
performance for Dillard this season. He set his previous
career-high with 23 points against Austin Peay in January.
"Jud has been playing really well for us," TTU head coach Mike
Sutton said. "He is aggressive offensively, he can finish at the
rim, and he is a tremendous rebounder."
Dillard averaged 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games during
the week, as he scored nine points for the Golden Eagles against
Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 4. He hit 12-of-21 shots (57.1 percent)
for the week, and 10-of-18 free throws.
On the season Dillard is averaging 9.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per
game this season, and is among the leagues most accurate shooters,
hitting 59.2 percent of his field goal attempts. But Dillard seems
to play at his best against the best competition. Against the top
four teams in the OVC this season, Dillard is averaging 13.2
points, 5.8 rebounds, and hitting 64.7 percent of his shots.
Dillard was also named Freshman of the Week on Dec. 14 and Jan.
25.
Dillard and the Golden Eagles will return to action on Tuesday
with a visit to in-state rival Austin Peay. Tech will return home
for a pair of contests at the end of the week, hosting Murray State
on Feb. 11 and UT Martin on Feb. 13. The Murray State game will be
Pack the House night at Eblen Center.
