KANSAS CITY, Mo. ‐‐ Tennessee Tech senior Daniel
Northern has been named second-team all-district by the National
Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), recognizing the
nation’s best men’s collegiate basketball
student‐athletes.
Northern led Tech in scoring with 12.6 points per game, and topped
the OVC with 73 blocked shots. He posted 11 double-doubles during
his final campaign, and wrapped up his three-year career at Tech
with 879 points.
"I think the all-district team will closely reflect the voting for
the all-conference team," said head coach Mike Sutton. "I'm pleased
that he has received this type of recognition. He led the OVC in
blocked shots and he was among the top players in the league in
several categories."
Northern's selection marks the ninth time that a Golden Eagle
player has been voted to theNABC all-district squad. Previous
winners include Earl Wise (1989, 1990), John Best (1993), Lorenzo
Coleman (1997), Larrie Smith (2001), Damien Kinloch (2002, 2003),
and Willie Jenkins (2004).
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these
student‐athletes represent the finest basketball players
across America. The 240 student‐athletes, from 24 districts
which were realigned this season, are now eligible for the State
Farm Coaches’ Division I All‐America teams to be
announced on Saturday, April 4, at Hoop City in the COBO Center, as
part of the 2009 NABC Convention in Detroit.
