NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech's Kevin Murphy has been
chosen as co-Freshman of the Week in the Ohio Valley Conference,
the second time this season that the 6-foot-6 Golden Eagle rookie
has been selected for the award. He shares the honor this week with
Murray State's Ivan Aska.
Murphy scored 21 points on 7-of-12 (58.3%) shooting as Tech topped
Jacksonville State, 91-74, in the regular season finale Saturday to
secure the No. 8 seed in the OVC Tournament. Murphy also pulled
down six rebounds, had two assists and a steal. He was 6-of-6 from
the free throw line and is 12-of-14 from the charity stripe over
the past three games.
The freshman from Fairburn, Ga., currently ranks fourth on the
team in scoring with 9.0 points per game. His average against the
league is 10.2 points per contests, which is third on the
squad.
Drake Reed of Austin Peay was chosen the OVC Player of the Week,
while Isaac Miles of Murray State captured the Newcomer of the Week
award.
Murphy and the Golden Eagles head to Martin, Tenn., to face the
No. 1 seeded UT Martin Skyhawks on Tuesday night, with tipoff at 7
p.m.
