Justin Matheney has worn a lot of hats as a member of the Tennessee Tech football staff over the years. For the 2017 campaign, he adds a new one as he now stands as the assistant recruiting coordinator and assistant defensive backs coach.

Matheney has been around the program a long time as he grew up in Cookeville, playing tight end and free safety for the Cavaliers.

After enrolling at Tech, Matheney joined the Golden Eagle staff in 2011 as a student assistant, helping with video and play analysis, reviewing practice and game footage as well as providing play-by-play analysis. He was also an assistant to the defensive coaches. The Golden Eagles won the Ohio Valley Conference championship that season.

After two more seasons as a student assistant, Matheney was promoted to an assistant coach, working with the Golden Eagles' strong safeties and nickelbacks.

With the hiring of Marcus Satterfield in 2016, Matheney moved in to a new role, becoming the team's Director of Football Operations.

Matheney earned his bachelor's degree in journalism/communication from Tech in 2013.
