COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Josh Poplar has proven time and time again that he's a hard worker on the football field, as well as in the classroom.

That was reinforced once again on Thursday as Poplar was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Poplar, a graduate student at Tech pursuing his master's degree in business administration, was one of three Ohio Valley Conference players on the district squads, joining Austin Peay senior offensive lineman Ryan Rockensuess and Murray State junior tight end James Sappington.

With the selection, Poplar is in the running for an Academic All-America bid, which will be announced in December.

Poplar, who is also among the finalists for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year award after missing the 2017 season, is second on the team in tackles with 93 total stops, a forced fumble and had a 14-yard interception return for a touchdown.

It is his second selection to CoSIDA's Academic All-District team. He has previously earned the OVC's Academic Medal of Honor (for having a 4.0 GPA during a school year), TTU Athletic Director's and OVC Commissioner's Honor Rolls and the OVC's Scholar-Athlete Award, which is awarded annually to three male and three female student-athletes throughout the conference who have excelled on and off the field.
