COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – National Signing Day may have been a few weeks back, but the Tennessee Tech football team is still bringing in new talent to join the Golden Eagles.

Cam Singletary is no exception. The senior from Colquitt County (Ga.) High officially became a Golden Eagle on Wednesday, adding another explosive offensive player to the Tech receivers corps.

Singletary finished the 2017 campaign putting up Dontez Byrd-like stats as he caught 79 passes for 1,025 yards and 11 touchdowns in 15 games last season. He averaged 13 yards per catch and 68.3 yards per game. He also returned punts for 320 yards. He helped lead the Packers to the 2017 Georgia Class 7A state championship game, after the team won Class 6A state titles in 2014 and 2015.

Even though Singletary was a late addition, he's just as valuable as the first ones.

"We couldn't be more excited about adding Cam," said Tech head football coach Dewayne Alexander. "He had a late ACT test because of a weather delay and made a fantastic score on it, but he just didn't have a score at first. He plays in a tremendous program at Colquitt County and it's one of the most storied programs in Georgia. They play at the highest level in the state and South Georgia ranks way up there among the best places for high school football in the country with Florida and Texas.

"Cam is an outstanding player. He's very special with the ball in his hand and that's something we've been looking for as we've been recruiting and assessing what we have. We've been looking for some speed after losing Dontez Byrd, so we've been looking to build some quickness in some slot positions. It's going to be a change from the way things have been done in recent years, so we need to add that slot-type position. We signed Jeremiah Edwards, who we feel has that potential, and Cameron Singletary is just that."

The receiver also plays point guard for the Packers' basketball team, earning a Georgia Athletic Coaches Association all-state selection in 2017 and eclipsing 1,000 points in his career.

"He's got amazing athletic ability," Alexander said. "He's a two-sport athlete. He's a good punt returner. He just does a lot of different things. We couldn't be more excited about signing him and bringing him in."

Colquitt County has a Tennessee Tech connection as former Golden Eagle quarterback Bert Browne is a coach on the school's staff.

"He's the one who gave us the call and said, 'Hey, you need to take a look at this guy,'" Alexander said. "Coach (Tre) Lamb and Coach (Dominique) Davenport, being from South Georgia, were aware of who this young man was, so between the combination of all that, we were able to watch his tape, get him up here and get him signed."

Singletary, with his 5-8 stature, has a way of making big plays happen.

"And he makes them at key times," Alexander said. "Understanding South Georgia football and Colquitt County, they're playing against Valdosta and teams like that. He's playing in front of 10, 12, 15 thousand people every week. They're all big games. They played deep into the playoffs, playing in the state championship, and all of these games were against teams with multiple Division I players.

"He's not putting these numbers up against inferior talent – these are guys who are going to be playing on Saturdays like he is, and he's making a lot of plays. I really feel like he is going to be someone who has a great opportunity to help our program grow."
