Free event Aug. 16 includes Women's Clinic,
Kid's Fun Zone, picnic and scrimmage
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Football fans are invited to get a
glimpse of the future and enjoy a day of tailgate-style activities
when Tennessee Tech hosts the annual Gathering of Eagles on
Saturday, Aug. 16.
A Women's Clinic and Kid's Fun Zone were added to the schedule
last year and were immediate hits. This year's day's also include a
free picnic for Golden Eagle football fans and the team's second
scrimmage of fall camp, followed by an autograph session and chance
for fans to meet the players.
The activities are centered around the Golden Eagle football
team's second scrimmage of fall camp. The scrimmage gets underway
at 1 p.m. in Tucker Stadium.
Leading up to the scrimmage, Tech is hosting a handful of
activities all geared toward fans, young and old, male and
female.
From 10 a.m. until noon, activities will be available in a Kid's
Fun Zone featuring inflatibles similar to the gameday tailgate area
that fans will find in the 98.5 KISS FM Tailgate Park prior to
every Golden Eagle home game. There will also be face-painting, a
balloon artist and Tech mascot Awesome Eagle.
Beginnng at 10:30 a.m., head coach Watson Brown will host Tech's
second annual "Now You Know" Women's Football Clinic. The women's
clinic is free but space is limited. The first 100 participants to
sign-up (by calling 931-372-3940) will receive a specially desiged
tote bag and an opportunity to tour the TTU athletic
facilities.
Starting at 12 noon inside the stadium, all fans are invited to join Tech Athletics officials at a picnic including free food and Pepsi products, football posters and schedule cards and other assorted souvenir-style items.
The Golden Eagle football team will kick off its final fall
scrimmage at 1 p.m.
Following the scrimmage, every member of the football team will
sign posters and meet with fans at tables set up on the track on
the East side of the stadium.
The Gathering of Eagles is the largest preseason event on tap as the team gears up for its season opener against Kentucky Christian University in Tucker Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 28.
The team enters its eighth season under Brown's direction, and promises to bring plenty of action into the 2014 season as they bid for their second Ohio Valley Conference championship in four years.
The Golden Eagles will host six home football games during the 2014 season, opening against Kentucky Christian on Thursday, Aug. 28. After that, Tech will welcome Murray State on Saturday, Oct. 4, Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 18, Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 1, Southeast Missouri for Homecoming on Saturday, Nov. 8, and Chattanooga on Saturday, Nov. 15.
