COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Speedster Ladarius Vanlier has been selected
the National Kickoff Returner of the Week, while placekicker John
Arnold and punter Jonathan King received College Football
Performance Awards (CFPA) Honorable Mentions for their roles last
week in Tech's thrilling win over Murray State.
Vanlier returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, the second of
his career, and accounted for 185 all-purpose yards as the Golden
Eagles slipped past visiting the Racers, 30-27, in overtime. He was
named the National FCS Kickoff Returner of the Week.
Arnold received Honorable Mention as Plackicker of the Week while
King was given Honorable Mention Punter of the Week. Arnold was
3-for-3 on his field goal attempts, kicking a 41-yarder with nine
seconds to play to force the overtime and added a 20-yard kick to
win it in the extra session. He was also 3-for-3 on PATs to account
for 12 points in the win. King average 47.3 yards on six punts,
placing three of them down inside the Racer 20-yard line. He had a
long of 59 yards as the Golden Eagles waged a battle for field
position.
The Golden Eagles hit the road Thursday for an OVC game at UT
Martin, Tech's second in the three-game series for the Sgt. York
Trophy presented by Delta Dental of Tennessee. Kickoff is at 6:30
p.m.
