Now a fifth-year senior, J.R. is hoping for the opportunity to increase his contributions to the Golden Eagles...a solid special teams player, he will also work in the defensive line at the Bear position...has showed continued improvement throughout his four years, and continued to develop in the spring...ready to step forward in 2011...spent his first season as a redshirt in 2007, then was slowed with an illness the following spring...played some in 2008 and 2009...has done a good job learning the system and could be tough to keep off the field for his final season...loaded with ability...has great size and a constant motor...excellent attitude and extremely coachable...shows excellent toughness...student of the game who can be a leader from the film room to the field...worked some as a tight end during his first season on the roster before moving to the defensive line.

AT TECH (IN 2010): As a junior, J.R. saw the most playing time of his career...was on the field in eight games in 2010...played in the defensive line and also worked on the special teams in kickoff coverage and kick return situations...did not compile any statistics.

(In 2009): J.R. saw action in four games as a sophomore...did not compile any statistics.

(In 2008): J.R. worked his way onto the field in seven games as a redshirt freshman, finishing with five total tackles...had two tackles against Central Methodist.

(In 2007): Redshirt during his initial season on the roster.

HIGH SCHOOL: A good-sized defensive lineman from Knoxville who was a standout for West High School and served as the team captain...was a first-team all-Region 3-4A selection and also received first-team all-state honors.

PERSONAL: The son of Jim and Julie Richmond...born September 11, 1988...full name is Shannon James Richmond IV...majoring in EXPW.
