One of the most versatile athletes on the roster, Taylor made
the move from wide receiver to free safety last year and has spent
a full season in the position...comes into the 2011 season listed
second on the depth chart at that spot and should see his playing
time increase with his added experiencce...an extremely hard worker
on the field and in the weight room...made great progress during
the last two spring sessions in making the transitition to his new
position...has excellent techniques and understanding of the
fundamentals...an intelligent player...backup at long
snapper...doing an outstanding job in the classroom, earning spot
on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all four semesters.
AT TECH (In 2010): Taylor played his first season
at rover and showed growth and development as a defensive player
throughout the season after moving across the line of scrimmage
from a receiver spot as a freshman...played in a backup role in 10
of 11 games...also a regular on special teams in kick
coverage.
(In 2009): In his true freshman season, Taylor worked on
the offensive side of scrimmage, lining up as an inside
receiver...also played on special teams...did not accumulate any
offensive numbers...had one tackle.
HIGH SCHOOL: A local standout, Taylor was named
first-team All-Region 3-5A as a senior after spending the year
serving as team captain for the Cookeville High School
Cavaliers...an Old Spice Leadership Award Nominee, he was a
four-year letterman and three-year starter...as a senior he chalked
up 72 total tackles, forced six fumbles and recovered five
fumbles...as a defensive back, he also made five
interceptions...for his career he played six different positions,
including quarterback, passing for more than 2,200 yards and 35
touchdowns...an extremely versatile athlete, he was also the team
long snapper all four seasons...lettered in track & field twice
for coach Bill Wrasman, and basketball three years under coach
Kevin Bray.
PERSONAL: The son of Mike and Leslie Hennigan...birthdate is April 3, 1990...full name is Taylor Jake Hennigan...majoring in health and physical education...his father, Mike, is a former Golden Eagle All-American and served as Tech head football coach from 1996 to 2005.
