The top returning ball carrier for the Golden Eagles, Dontey
should see plenty of opportunities to add to his career numbers in
2011...he pushed past the 1,000-yard mark for career rushing as a
junior and comes into his senior season with 1,108 career
yards...he led Golden Eagles in rushing 2009 and was on pace to
repeat last season before injuries sidelined him for the final two
contests and he finished second on the squad...hard runner and a
solid all-purpose player...good hands...his blocking has
improved...dangerous lined up deep to return kicks...a
game-breaking ingredient...dependable...has piled up 1,932
all-purpose yards to rank second among all active players...has
piled up 690 kick return yards...has placed on the Athletic
Director's Honor Roll in two semesters.
AT TECH (In 2010): Dontey was the starter in the
backfield through the first nine games, but missed the final two
contests with an injury...had thehighest yards-per-carry among
Tech's regular ball carriers. picking up 6.8 per try...finished
second the team with 429 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 63
attempts...caught two passes for five yards and added 49 yards on
kickoff returns to give him 483 all-purpose yards, fourth on the
squad..season-high 89 yards on six carries with two scores in the
rain-shortened win over Lane College...rushed for 68 yards on eight
carries in win over Eastern Illinois...had 61 on eight attempts
against UT Martin...finished the UTM game with 91 all-purpose yards
for his season-high.
(In 2009): Led Tech in rushing and all-purpose yards as a
sophomore...rushed for 556 yards on 100 carries, an average of 5.6
yards per try...also led Tech with six rushing touchdowns...caught
13 passes for 10 yards...averaged 18.6 yards on nine kick
returns...second on the team in scoring with 36 points...finished
with 833 all-purpose yards, an average of 75.7 per game...had two
100-yard games on the ground...after opening the season with 88
yards and two touchdowns against Pikeville to establish a new
career-high, Dontey lifted that mark higher when he went for 125
yards and two scores on 20 carries in a win over Southeast
Missouri...his second century performance netted 102 yards on 10
carries in the season finale against Murray State...Tech is 3-0 in
games when Dontey rushed for 80 yards or better...had three games
with exactly the same all-purpose yards, gaining 125 against
Pikeville, SEMO and Murray State.
(In 2008): In his first season on the squad, Dontey
played in 11 contests and ranked third on the team in rushing and
fourth in all-purpose yards...rushed 37 times for 189 yards, an
average of more than five yards per carry...also caught four passes
for 25 yards...returned 23 kicks, tops on the team, and averaged
24.4 yards per return...top rushing game of the season came in the
final game with 10 carries for 66 yards and one TD vs. Eastern
Illinois...had four kick returns for 110 yards, including
career-long of 63 yards at Southeast Missouri, setting up a field
goal on the final play of the first half...88 yards on three kick
returns against EIU, giving him career-best 160 all-purpose yards
against the Panthers...ranked fifth in the OVC in kick return yards
and seventh in yards per return.
HIGH SCHOOL: A first-team Kentucky All-State
pick, Dontey topped the 1,000-yard mark for three consecutive
seasons at Henry Clay High School in Lexington...named first-team
all-city each year...second-leading rusher in school history...as a
senior he had 1,525 yards on the ground and 550 receiving yards,
adding up to 19 touchdowns...in the secondary, he led the team in
fumbles caused and passes defended...selected to the Tremendous 26,
a group of the top 26 players in the state.
