Jake returns to his starting role at the renegade middle
linebacker position...has played in 20 games and started 17 times
in his first two years on the roster...enters his junior campaign
with 105 total career tackles and 6.5 tackles-for-loss...steady and

AT TECH -- (In 2009): Jake was third on the team
in total tackles and tops among linebackers...made 62 total tackles

against Tech's other FBS foe, Georgia...eight tackles against

(In 2008): After sitting out the first three games, Jake
earned himself a chance to play in the fourth game and made three
tackles at Western Michigan...the next week, he was in the starting
lineup and held that role for the final eight contests...finished
the year ranked eighth on the team in total tackles with 45, one of
three true freshmen among Tech's Top 10 in tackles...had two
tackles-for-loss...made four stops in his first start, Tech's home
victory over Central Methodist...credited with career-high nine
tackles at Eastern Kentucky...also made nine tackles against UT
Martin...had six stops at Austin Peay...ranked 33rd in the OVC in
tackles per game with 5.0...listed fourth in the conference among
all freshmen in tackles per game...helped Tech become the only
league school with two freshmen ranked among the Top 50 in the OVC
in tackles.
HIGH SCHOOL: After starting his high school career being
named the team's Freshman of the Year and rushing for more than 500
yards in 2004, Jake moved to the defensive side of scrimmage and
became a standout at linebacker...three-year starter at his new
position, he was a three-time all-area, all-region and
all-Tri-State selection...led Dalton to its first regional
championship in more than a decade, and was named a team captain
and Defensive MVP...Despite playing in only eight games as a
senior, he made 120 total tackles with 16 tackles-for-loss, four
fumbles caused and one interception...coached by Jim Bennett and
Kit Carpenter...piled up 380 total tackles in his final three
seasons...earned four letters in the shot put, discus and 100m dash
for the track & field team.
