Cass has had an interesting career with the Golden Eagles,
playing quarterback as a freshman, wide receiver as a sophomore and
back to signal-caller as a junior...he comes into his final season
listed second on the depth chart at quarterback...really developed
in that role during spring drills as he developed a much greater
knowledge of the offensive system...a great athlete, he has added
to his overall size and strength...has all the tools to be an
effective quarterback and has now begun to gain experience...has a
strong arm and the fastest feet among the QBs...was pressed into
action at quarterback as a true freshman and gained important
experience on the field in that key position...now back in that
role he gives Tech plenty of depth under center...dangerous with
the ball in his hands...great quickness...has the ability to make
tacklers miss him...a battle-tested player who enjoys having the
ball in his hands and making plays...potential to be a playmaker
for the Golden Eagles...passing game really took a step forward
during spring drills.
AT TECH (In 2009): Cass was back at quarterback
as a junior and called signals in a backup role in eight
contests...attempted just four passes, going 1-for-4 for 10
yards...carried the ball 21 times...gained 61 yards and lost 15,
finishing with 46 net yards on the ground...scored two touchdowns,
both coming in the season finale victory over Murray State when he
rushed seven times for nine yards...top games were 15 yards on four
carries against Austin Peay and 16 yards on three tries against
Tennessee State.
(In 2008): Cass lined up at wide receiver as a sophomore
and saw action in seven games... caught five passes for 48
yards...biggest game was two receptions for 33 yards at Murray
State.
(In 2007): After watching from the sidelines the
first two games, Cass got onto the field against Concordia and
played in all nine games after that...started the year as the No. 3
quarterback, but eventually moved into the starting spot due to
injuries to Lee Sweeney and Josh Lowery...played most of the game
against Austin Peay, and got the start against Tennessee
State...eventually settled into a shuttle assignment with Sweeney,
coming in-and-out of the contest on alternating plays...finished
the year with 163 yards rushing on 43 carries, with five
touchdowns...ranked third on the team in rushing yards, averaging
3.8 per carry...was 8-for-13 passing for 95 yards with two
touchdowns and one interception...had three carries for 24 yards
and scored two touchdowns against Concordia...his first career pass
completion went for a touchdown against Tennessee State when he
went 5-for-6 for 44 yards...best rushing game was 60 yards on 10
attempts with a touchdown against Austin Peay....at EKU he rushed
for 24 yards and went 3-for-3 for 51 yards through the air with a
40-yard TD toss to Larry Shipp...actually posted the highest QB
rating on the squad at 158.31, completing 61.5 percent of his
tries...finished fourth on the team in scoring with 30
points...ranked first in the OVC in pass efficiency with a 158.3
quarterback rating.
