KENT, Ohio - The Tennessee Tech baseball team couldn't build on a great start Sunday afternoon, falling to Kent State in the teams' series finale at Schoonover Stadium, 8-1.

The Golden Eagles (2-4) kicked off the contest with as perfect of a start as you can draw up, with second baseman Brett Roberts leading things off on the day. The slugger offered at the first pitch he saw, crushing a solo shot to center field for the 1-0 lead. It marked his first round-tripper of the season.

The Kent State (3-2) pitching staff locked things down from that point on, allowing just four more hits the rest of the way. The Golden Flashes got on the board in the bottom of the second, scoring twice to take the lead for good.

In the bottom half of the third inning, the home squad struck again, taking advantage of a pair of walks and two hits to dent home plate three more times. Through a third of the game, Kent State owned a 5-1 lead.

The Golden Flashes added two more runs to the total in the fifth, using two Golden Eagle miscues on defense to produce the offense. One more marker in the seventh gave the home team the final lead of 8-1, with the pitching staff closing things out unscathed.

Tech is scheduled to make its home debut at Quillen Field and Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex Tuesday afternoon, playing host to North Alabama in a 3:00 p.m. CT tilt.
