COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After turning in an eye-popping performance on the diamond last week, Tennessee Tech third baseman Trevor Putzig claimed his first career National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
In three games against Illinois State, Putzig hit .727 (8-for-11) with nine runs scored, a double, four home runs, eight RBI, a 1.909 slugging percentage and .812 on-base percentage, leading the Golden Eagles to a 2-1 mark against the Redbirds.
The senior was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and a walk in the series opener. He followed that with a career day on Saturday, going 5-for-6 with five runs scored, a double, three home runs and seven RBI. The three home runs tied a TTU single-game record, also matched in the contest by junior right fielder Kevin Strohschein.
He capped the week by going 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a trio of walks. Through two weekends, Putzig is hitting .550 (11-for-20) with 10 RBI.
