COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – For the first time in his highly-successful career at Tennessee Tech, junior designated hitter and first baseman Ryan Flick took home his first adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors Monday.
Playing four games in three days, Flick spent the week tearing the cover off the ball and producing runs for the Golden Eagles, batting a red hot .579 with eight runs scored, seven RBI and a slugging percentage of 1.053.
The junior DH finished 3-for-5 in a slugfest at Lipscomb, smashing a home run and double while scoring three times. He then tallied four hits in five at bats in the OVC opener at UT Martin, driving in three and scoring twice. Flick carried the Tech offense in the series finale, finishing 4-for-6 with two runs scored, three RBI a double and a home run.
For the week, the Bluff City, Tenn. native posted an on base percentage of .619 and finished just a triple shy of the cycle in two games.
Flick currently leads the OVC in doubles (0.56/game) and total bases (2.94/game), is second in slugging (.758) and fourth in batting (.419).
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Alex Robles, RHP • 6-0, 216, Sr. • Tucson, Ariz. • Austin Peay
Robles needed only 94 pitches as he tossed a complete game shutout in a 4-0 victory over Jacksonville State on Saturday. The senior allowed just three hits and struck out 11 while walking only one; only one Jacksonville State batter reached second base in the contest. Robles struck out six of the final nine batters he faced, and his lone walk came against the next-to-last batter of the game. The senior opened the game by retiring the first six batters he faced and later retired 10-straight JSU players at one point. It marked his second career shutout and the fifth career game for Robles. Robles was also 6-for-16 (.375) at the plate during the week, including a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 14th inning of Sunday's 6-5 victory that helped the Govs complete the three-game sweep of the Gamecocks. For the week he smashed two home runs and drove in five runs.
