Tennessee Tech takes Kentucky to the limit

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- The Tennessee Tech baseball team gave the #23 Kentucky Wildcats everything they could handle Tuesday afternoon as the Wildcats managed to come away with the 10-6 win.

The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard first as they tallied the games first three runs, with one coming in the third inning and two in the fourth. Michael Morris led off the scoring as he notched his second home run of the season in the top of the third and was followed Chad Hayes' two-run double in the fourth.

While the Tech offense was beginning to get going, TTU starter Cullen Park was just as effective on the mound as he gave the Golden Eagles four solid innings as he gave up just one run on three hits.

UK managed to knot up the score at three, but a three-run shot by Evan Frazier in the top of the seventh gave Tech its second three-run lead of the game at 6-3.

The Wildcats were finally able to muster a rally as they scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead 9-6. UK added an additional run in the eighth to secure the 10-6 win.

Tim Peterson earned the win for the Wildcats as he threw 1.1 innings as he gave up one run and struck out two. UK starter Chandler Shepherd gave up three runs on six hits, in three innings of work, while Alex Phillips gave up two runs in 3.2 innings pitched.

Jake McWhirter took the loss as he gave up five runs in 1.1 innings.

At the plate, four Wildcats drove in two runs, including AJ Reed and Cameron Flynn who each tallied two hits as well.

The Golden Eagles return home for a three-game series this weekend as they host Evansville. Game one of the three-game series is set for Friday at 3 p.m.
