MOBILE, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team will kick off
a six-game schedule this week with a pair of games at South Alabama
on March 9 and 10 as the Golden Eagles and Jaguars will meet for
the first time in program history.
Tech enters the week at 4-6 overall after falling at No. 30
Vanderbilt, and to Bradley three times in a home series last week.
The Jaguars, from the Sun Belt Conference, are 8-5 in 2010.
The Golden Eagles are led offensively by sophomore Chad Hayes and
junior Chad Oberacker. Hayes leads the team and is third in the
Ohio Valley Conference in batting average, hitting .447 at the
plate, while Oberacker is hitting .422 and leads the Golden Eagles
with 10 RBIs on the season. Junior A.J. Kirby-Jones leads the team
in home runs with three, and has a team-high .700 slugging
percentage on the year. Kirby-Jones has been walked a league-high
15 times on the season, and his .542 on-base percentage is second
in the OVC.
But the Golden Eagles have been getting the job done on the mound
as well. Senior pitcher Lee Henry holds a 0.00 ERA and a 1-0 record
in three appearances on the year. Henry has thrown 9.2 innings and
struck out 12 batters while giving up just four hits and four
walks. Freshman Nick Price has been equally as impressive. Price
also has a 0.00 ERA, and has struck out eight batters in 8.0
innings pitched with just one hit allowed.
The Golden Eagles will return home for a four-game weekend series
against Buffalo in Bush Stadium. The series will begin with a
single game on March 12 at 3 p.m., with a double-header on March 13
beginning at 1 p.m. and the series finale on March 14 at 12 p.m.
Admission to all Tech home baseball games is free.
