COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech senior Alex Henry has
been named to the NCAA Clemson All-Region team for his efforts in
the Golden Eagles three games last weekend.
Tech captured the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title and
advanced to the Regional, where the Golden Eagles posted a 1-2
record, including a 6-2 win over No. 14 Alabama that eliminated the
Crimson Tide. In the opening game, the Golden Eagles fell 5-4 to
eventual champion Clemson when the Tigers scored two runs in the
bottom of the ninth.
In the three games at the Regional, Henry batted .538 with seven
hits in his 13 at bats. Two of his hits were doubles, and his nine
total bases gave him a .692 slugging percentage. He led Tech in
runs scored, crossing the plate three times. The senior from
Knoxville also posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in eight
chances.
The all-tournament award capped off a sensational season for the
former Karns High School standout.
Henry batted .314 while starting 55 of Tech’s 56 games.
Tech’s leadoff hitter, he topped the Golden Eagles in runs
scored (54) and times hit by pitch (10), and ranked second in at
bats (207). He was third on the team in hits, walks and on-base
percentage. In the field, he had the highest fielding average among
Tech’s regulars at .989, making just one error in 91
chances.
Henry earned one of three outfield positions on the all-tournament
team at the Clemson Regional, joining Wilson Boyd of Clemson and
Michael Dabbs of Oklahoma State.
