COOKEVILLE, Tenn. –Trice Powers doubled in the go-ahead
run in the bottom of the eighth and Lee Henry worked five scoreless
innings of relief as TennesseeTech scored a 4-2 victory over Toledo
Friday to open a four-game series with the Rockets.
Tech tacked on another run in the fourth inning, when Chad
Oberacker’s single scored Alex Henry, who had singled earlier
in the inning.
However, with the Golden Eagles (6-2) up 2-0 in the top of the
fifth inning, Toledo’s (2-3) Dan Sherwood belted a two-run
home run to tie the game.
The score stayed knotted until Powers’ RBI double in the
bottom of the eighth inning.
Senior lefty Adam Liberatore got the nod on the mound for Tech, and
struck out four batters in three scoreless innings, before leaving
the game in the top of the fourth with an injury. Ryan Dennick came
in to relieve Liberatore, and went three innings, allowing two runs
and striking out four batters.
Junior Lee Henry pitched the final three innings for Tech, and
earned the win (2-0), striking out three while allowing just two
hits.
Ryan France (0-1) was dinged with the loss for the Rockets, after
giving up Tech’s eighth inning runs.
Tech finished with four runs on six hits and zero errors, while
Toledo scored two runs on six hits, and committed no errors.
The two teams will get together for a double-header on Saturday,
which begins at 1 p.m., and will play the fourth game of the series
at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
