COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech baseball team returns
home to host Ohio Valley Conference opponent Eastern Kentucky for a
three-game weekend series. The Golden Eagles and Colonels are
scheduled for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, and a
single game starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Tech (13-12, 1-7) is coming off a three-game series against
Morehead State in which the Golden Eagles got their first OVC win
in the series opener, beating the Eagles 17-16 in 10 innings,
before dropping the final two games.
Tech set a season-high in runs scored in two consecutive games last
week, beating East Tennessee State 15-7 before topping Morehead
State 17-16 in the series opener. With the 10-inning win over MSU,
the Golden Eagles improve to 3-0 in extra-inning games, and 5-0
when scoring 10 or more runs.
The Colonels enter the week at 18-9 and 6-3 in the OVC, and are one
of the conference's best offensive teams. EKU is leading the
conference in team batting average, hitting .374 as a team, and
boasts the leagues RBI and triples leader in Jayson Langfels (43
RBIs, 5 triples), and stolen base and runs scored leader in Matt
Davis (16 stolen bases, 51 runs scored).
Looking ahead, Tech is slated for six games next week, starting
with a home doubleheader against Covenant on April 14, beginning at
4 p.m. The Golden Eagles will then travel for a return game at ETSU
on April 15. On the weekend, Tech will travel to Austin Peay for a
three-game Ohio Valley Conference series, with a doubleheader
starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, and a single game starting at 1 p.m.
Sunday. Admission to all Tech home baseball games is free.
