
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- When members of the Cookeville/Putnam County
Chamber of Commerce gathered Tuesday morning for their monthly
"Before Hours" event, the featured guests were Tennessee Tech
women's basketball head coach Jim Davis, assistant men's coach Russ
Willemsn (head coach Steve Payne is out of town recruiting), and
Golden Eagle players Mitchell Hill and Dennis Ogbe.
A large crowd was on hand at the Leslie Towne Center, and the
chamber members took advantage of the opportunity to meet and talk
with the players and coaches.
"We are very proud of our student-athletes, and they are champion
students as well as champion athletes," said Director of Athletics
Mark Wilson. "They are succeeding in the classroom as well as on
the fields of competition. Last semester, our student-athletes had
a combined 3.14 grade point average, the seventh consecutive
semester they have achieved a GPA above 3.0."
Tech's team are on the road for the next two weeks, returning to
Eblen Center for a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 9, against
Jacksonville State. Wilson announced that doubleheader to be
"Communiversity Night" at Eblen Center, and detailed plans for
Chamber members to be guests of the teams. The women's game begins
at 5:30 p.m., with the men's contest following at approimately 7:30
p.m.
