COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Nearly 100 of Tennessee Tech's female
student-athletes were treated Thursday morning to a talk by Lanise
Rosemond -- also known across campus as "Coach Rose" -- as part of
the Dr. M. Dianne Murphy Female Student-Athlete Leaders For Life
program.
Following an informal lunch in the Eagles Nest of the Eblen
Center, the audience heard "Coach Rose" give a spirited and lively
presentation on personal growth and development. A former
collegiate student-athlete and coach, Rose is an instructor in the
Dept. of Exercise Science and Physical Education.
"This was a wonderful and inspirational presentation, and everyone
really seemed to enjoy hearing her message," said Tammie McMillan,
Tech's Senior Woman Adminstrator. "The two programs this month have
been extremely beneficial and informative to our female
student-athletes."
The Leaders for Life program was established by Dr. Murphy, a former Tech student-athlete who has gone on to become one of America's most respected collegiate athletics administrators and is currently the Director of Athletics at Columbia University.
Murphy announced the establishment of the Dr. M. Dianne Murphy
Female Student-Athlete Leaders for Life Program at Tennessee Tech
in 2006. The program provides mentoring and networking
opportunities for female student-athletes at Tennessee Tech with
successful female role models. The Leaders for Life Program
features keynote addresses by women in the sports industry and
women in leadership positions, as well as social networking
opportunities.
Dr. Murphy herself was back on campus two weeks ago for a
presentation in the program.
