COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech's baseball, softball, tennis
and track & field teams are all in action this weekend, and all
on the road. Those four Golden Eagle squads will be representing
the university in Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois and Tennessee.
The Tennis team faces the first action of the weekend, playing
Friday at Radford University in the first of three consecutive days
of matches. The Golden Eagle baseball team heads to Edwardsville,
Ill., to play a three-day, three-game series against SIU
Edwardsville. The women's track & field team will be in
Nashville Friday afternoon and most of Saturday for the Vanderbilt
Invitational. Finally, the Tech softball team heads to Murray State
for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against the
Racers.
TENNIS PLAYS THREE MATCHES AT RADFORD
Head coach Keny Doyle's team faces a busy weekend, with three
matches in three days at Radford University. The Golden Eagles open
the weekend Friday against the host Highlanders at 3 p.m. Radford
is currently ranked 73rd. Radford brings a 12-3 overall record into
the match, including an eight-match winning streak and 11 of the
last 12.
On Saturday, Tech returns to the Radford courts to play UNC
Charlotte at 3 p.m. The 49ers hold a 3-13 overall record including
losses in 10 straight matches. Tech's visit to the Commonwealth of
Virginia wraps up appropriately with a match Sunday against George
Washington University. The Colonials are 10-6 overall including a
5-0 record in A-10 conference play. GWU has won three straight and
eight of its last 10. That contest is slated for 10 a.m.
Tech is 4-4 overall this season in dual matches, including a 2-0
record in OVC play. The Golden Eagles have won three straight by
larger margins each outing. The string includes wins over
Gardner-Webb (4-3), Jacksonville State (5-2) and Eastern Illinois
(6-1).
Through the years, Tech has posted a 1-0 record against UNC
Charlotte and an 0-2 mark against Radford. The match with George
Washingtonwill be the first meeting between the two teams.
BASEBALL TEAM VISITS FUTURE OVC FOE SIU EDWARDSVILLE
The Golden Eagles will face off against the Cougars of SIU
Edwardsville in a three-game series this weekend that will mark the
first contests ever between the two opponents. Edwardsville, who
will join the Ohio Valley Conference in 2012, is 5-14 on the season
and is riding a three-game losing streak, having dropped games to
Creighton and Valparaiso last weekend and Bradley on Wednesday
night.
Game one will be played on Friday at 7 p.m., while both Saturday
and Sunday’s games will be played at 1 p.m.Tech, with a
record of 8-13 thus far on the season, is coming off of a hard
fought, 11-2 loss to Vanderbilt on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles will
throw their usual weekend rotation, starting with right-hander
Tristan Archer of Friday night (3-2, 5.58 ERA in 30.2 innings
pitched) followed by RHP Matt Shepherd, who leads the team with a
2.62 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 34.1 innings pitched, on
Saturday.
Southpaw Chad Oberacker will cap off the series for Tech on Sunday
with his 3.12 ERA and 26 Ks in 26 innings of work for Tech.

GOLDEN EAGLES RETURN TO FAMILIAR TRACK AT
VANDERBILT
Coach Tony Cox will take a team of 26 student-athletes to the
Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational, including a women's team
of 23 plus three men's distance runners. The meet begins Friday
with the Hammer Throw, with all other events staring at 9 a.m.
Saturday and running through the final event, the 4x400 relay, at
4:20 p.m.
Three Golden Eagles are scheduled to compete in the Hammer Throw,
led by Ashley Mayhew who has the fifth-best mark entered in the
event. Madison Borden and Haley Wennerstrom are also in the event
Friday.
Tech has entries scheduled to compete in all but two events on
Saturday, with senior Katherine Lynn ranked as the team's best
contender. She owns the third-best effort this year among the 22
women in the high jump, trailing a pair of Vanderbilt jumpers.
In the men's events, Matthew Bishop, Kolbe Andrzejewski and Adam
McLeod will run in the 1,500- and 3,000-meter events.
A field of 10 schools is scheduled to compete in the meet,
incuding OVC rivals Southeast Missouri, Jacksonville State and
Murray State. Also listed on the entry sheets are athletes from
host Vanderbilt of the Southeastern Conference, Central Michigan
and Miami (Ohio) from the Mid-America Conference, plus Lipscomb of
the Atlantic Sun Conference.

SOFTBALL SQUAD SQUARES OFF WITH MURRAY
STATE
The softball team continues its OVC schedule as it travels to
Murray State for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader
Saturday. Coach Tory Acheson's team (13-11, 4-4 OVC) is 1-2
all-time against the Racers, which includes a 4-0 shutout in their
last meeting. All three games came in Cookeville last year, in
Murray State's first season of softball. Recently, the Golden
Eagles split their home doubleheader against Eastern Kentucky on
Tuesday.
Currently sitting in 10th place in the OVC, the Racers enter the
series the owners of a 5-16 overall record, including a 1-7
conference mark. In its last seven games, Murray State has compiled
a 2-5 record, including a split with SIU Edwardsville in its most
recent doubleheader.
The opening pitch for Saturday's first game is slated for 1 p.m.,
with the second game following the conclusion of the first game.
Sunday's finale is also set for a 1 p.m. start.
