SEATTLE – Playing on its home court for the first time this season, Seattle University volleyball powered its way to a pair of thrilling wins over Tennessee Tech and Idaho State as part of the Redhawk Invitational.

The Redhawks (7-4) opened the day with their fourth straight-sets sweep of the season, taking down Tennessee Tech (6-7) 25-10, 25-19, 25-20. Then, in the nightcap, a stellar defensive performance and a dominant fifth set led to a 25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-8 victory over Idaho State (5-7).

"The whole day was really fun," said Head Coach James Finley. "It was really good to come out in our first home match and dominate. We knew Idaho State was going to be a real challenge and we struggled a little early with making errors but then we really calmed down and played really consistent volleyball."

Seattle U dominated the match against the Golden Eagles from start to finish, hitting .345 while holding their opponent to .189. Mahra McLeod and Rachel Stark paced the Redhawks with eight kills apiece while Maja Stojanovic and Sofia Sanchez added seven.

Shae Harris dished 29 assists to go along with 11 digs and Tijana Milojevic finished with a match-high 13 digs.

Defense reigned in the nightcap as the Redhawks and Bengals finished with a combined 26 blocks. Behind six block assists from freshman Julia Queiroz in the first set, the Redhawks came away with a 25-17 win.

Idaho State balled back to take the second set 25-23 and the back-and-forth affair continued. Trailing 24-19 in the fourth set, the Redhawks put together a 3-0 run to force a Bengals time out. But ISU would put the set away in a kill from Abby Garrity to force the tie breaking fifth set.

From there on, it was all Seattle U. A kill by Sanchez opened the set and the Redhawks quickly opened up a 7-1 lead, capped by back-to-back kills from McLeod and Stojanovic. The Redhawks would never look back as they finished with 10 kills on 13 swings and zero errors in the 15-8 set victory.

"Tonight was such a good team effort," said Finley. "We've gotten better and better with rhythm and defense and we're able to pick up our intensity at times when we're already playing well, which is a testament to how hard we're working in practice."

Stojanovic finished with a match-high 15 kills on 25 swings and just one error. Rachel Stark added 13 kills and 12 digs, while Queiroz collected 10 kills and 10 blocks for her first career double-double. McLeod added 12 kills, Harris dished 50 assists and Milojevic had a match-high 29 digs.

The Redhawks conclude play in their own Redhawk Invitational on Saturday, hosting Montana State at 2 p.m.
