Building her professional resume with positions at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Newberry College and Niagara University, Randi Kaplan joined the Tennessee Tech Sports Medicine staff in January 2012 in the role of Assistant Athletic Trainer. She works primarily with the Golden Eagle women’s basketball team.

A native of Woodridge. N.Y., Kaplan received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the State University of New York at Albany in 2004 and went to graduate school at the State University of New York at Buffalo. While working on a combined bachelor’s/master’s degree in exercise science at Buffalo, she was a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and the Tau Sigma National Honor Society. She graduated with honors from the combined BS/MS program in June 2007 and was BOC certified in July.

As an undergraduate at SUNY Albany, she supported the head Athletic trainer in providing medical coverage for the football, lacrosse, men’s and women’s basketball and track & field teams.  She was also a volunteer student athletic trainer at two Empire State Games, working with the men’s and women’s soccer teams in 2002 and with softball in 2005.

At Buffalo, she was an Athletic Training student assistant for three years, and also worked two years at the Summer Athletic camps. She worked a variety of sports in her role, including football, wrestling, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis and volleyball.

In January 2007, she was selected as an Athletic Training Intern at Niagara University, where she worked four months with the women’s ice hockey program along with both the men’s and women’s tennis teams.

She also served as an Athletic Training Intern at Sport Rehab Physical Therapy in Depew, N.Y., in 2007.

For the next three years, from 2007 to 2010, Randi was an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Newberry College. While there, she spent an extended period of time serving as the acting Head Athletic Trainer, and became proficient in numerous additional staff duties including insurance coordinator and staff liaison.

In October 2010, she was selected as Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, a position she held until joining the Golden Eagle Sports Medicine staff.

Professionally, she is currently a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) in addition to the Tennessee Athletic Trainers' Society and The Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association.
