COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech Sports Medicine Department welcomed a new addition to the Golden Eagle Athletics' family Monday, naming Maggie McGowan-Stinski as an assistant athletic trainer.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to join the Sports Medicine staff at Tennessee Tech," McGowan-Stinski expressed. "The University, staff, and Athletic Department as a whole seemed like a great community and I'm honored to now be a part of it."

McGowan-Stinski will work primarily with the Golden Eagle soccer and softball teams in her first year with Tech.

"We are excited to bring Maggie aboard for what is a very unique and challenging time in our country and in this profession," Tech Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer Joe Erdeljac said. "Her experience across numerous sports programs will be beneficial for us, particularly in a spring unlike any other we have ever seen."

Prior to her arrival in Cookeville, she served as an assistant athletic trainer at Louisiana State University Shreveport from 2018 to 2020. While there, she worked with the Pilots' both the men's and women's soccer programs, as well as the baseball team, providing daily care and coverage for injury prevention, evaluation and assessment, treatment and rehabilitation, and documentation.

She also provided assistance with the men's and women's basketball teams, women's tennis, and Olympic weightlifting.

From 2016-18, McGowan-Stinski worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Southeastern Louisiana University, serving with the volleyball and track & field programs during her final year. In her first year with the Lions, she worked with the women's soccer and women's tennis teams.

During the summer of 2016, she completed an internship working with the Mississippi State football team, continuing work into November. She assisted with game-day coverage for five games during the 2016 campaign for the Bulldogs.

A graduate of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., McGowan-Stinski earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training in April 2016. She went on to earn her master's in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport psychology from Southeast Louisiana in May 2018.

She is currently a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) and is a member of several other regional associations.
