COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference continued releasing its academic honors on Thursday as the league announced its Academic Medal of Honor recipients.
This year, Tennessee Tech claimed 12 of the record 245 awards for the 2015-16 academic year.
The OVC Academic Medal of Honor is given annually to the student-athletes who achieve the highest grade point average in a conference-sponsored sport. Every Academic Medal of Honor recipient for the 2015-16 academic year had a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Tech's winners included:
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Hannah Goolsby
FOOTBALL – Josh Poplar
MEN'S GOLF – Mitch Thomas
WOMEN'S GOLF – Megan Williamson
WOMEN'S SOCCER – Abi Gearing, Molly Kafader, Mackenzie Miller
SOFTBALL – Gabby Lasala, Ashley McGowan
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD – Christina Driscoll
VOLLEYBALL – Susan Jeziorowski, Shealene Little
The 245 recipients shattered the record of 212 winners from the 2012-13 academic year. In the past five years, 1,025 student-athletes across the conference earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor.
On Wednesday, the conference announced a record 1,335 student-athletes on the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll, each with a 3.25 or higher GPA.
The OVC will announce the winner of the Academic Achievement Award and Team Academic Achievement Awards on Friday.
