Looking Back: A peek into the Golden Eagle photo archives

Note: Each week, the TTU Sports Information Staff will dig into the school's rich Photo Archives and publish a photo from the past. Some of the photos will include identification, but sometimes Tech will ask for viewers' help in identifying the people shown in the photo. To submit missing identification or comments about the photos in this series, send an email to: sportsinfo@tntech.edu.

Featured this week: German-born Gernot Fischer was a standout player on the Golden Eagle men's tennis team from 2001 to 2003, earning all-OVC honors all three seasons. He was twice named to the OVC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, and helped Aldrin Campos' team capture the 2003 OVC Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament. A fundamentally sound player, Fischer had excellent quickness, a strong serve and a deadly serve-and-volley game. A business major, he was ranked as high as No. 91 during his junior season when he tied the school record with 29 victories in singles play. That allowed him to post 46 combined wins, including 17 in doubles competition. The 46 overall wins is the second-most in a single season in school history.
