Point guard Zac Swansey was a true leader on the floor for the Golden Eagle basketball team in 2010-11, after sitting out last year due to NCAA transfer regulations. He spent more time on the floor than any of his teammates, logging 114 more minutes than his closet teammate, and averaging 32.8 minutes per game. Swansey easily led his team and the conference in assists with 212, a statistic that left him among the top 10 in the nation. He also contributed 319 points on the year to tie for second on the team in points scored, averaging 9.7 points per game. He put up 13 double-figure performances on the season, and logged double figures in the assist column five times. Zac shot .418 from the floor and .360 from behind the arc to go with his .746 accuracy from the charity stripe. He also contributed 99 rebounds (average of 3.0/game), and led the team in steals with 68 - nearly double that of his closest counterpart. Furthermore, Swansey demonstrated his talents as a clutch shooter with five game-winning shots – twice downing EIU, once each on TSU and JSU, and a buzzer-beater with two seconds left to down then-top ranked OVC opponent, Austin Peay. Swansey’s APSU buzzer-beater earned him and the Golden Eagles the No. 1 play on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays of the Day. Swansey earned one OVC Newcomer of the Week award for his performances at SIUE and against Jacksonville State to close out the season, and was named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team as well as to the OVC All-Tournament Team. Additionally, he was named Second-Team All-District (District 19) by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Swansey was honored a team-high four times at the team’s post-season dinner, garnering a co-MVP award with Kevin Murphy, as well as awards for most assists and most steals. He also shared the 3-point shooter award.
